Self Reflection
“Self-reflection is the ability to witness and evaluate our own cognitive, emotional, and behavioral processes“, or a more informal definition: “A time to dig deeper into yourself; what worked well or what didn’t“
Why?
Self reflection can have a positive impact on your day-to-day life. You feel like you’re in control of your actions and emotions, you feel like you know yourself more and are actively working to be the best you can be, and so much more.
Learn What Makes You Happy
It sounds simple, but you’d be surprised how many things we do in our day-to-day life that subconsciously makes our mood worse. If we take a few moments to assess our own actions and see what actually makes our day better and what doesn’t, and make changes, we will see those good days go up and the bad ones down.
Discover Your Core Value
This might be a hard one to figure out, and these can always change as you change. Core values are the things that you hold most valuable. Like for instance the relationship with your family, your close friends or the moral you stand by. Get to know yourself, as a person.
Find Out Your Pros And Con
No one is perfect, everyone is a work in progress. We subconsciously show a bind eye towards our cons, we say to ourselves that, “I am that type of person” and I can’t change it. But I believe if we can understand our flaws, admit them to ourselves and take small steps in improving them, we can change. Along with that, understanding your plus points, and making the most out of them can lead you to greater heights.
Develop Future Goals
This applies to everyone, if you’re still in school or a college students like me, or even if you’re already married and have a job, there’s a future for everyone. Ask yourself this, “What am I working towards”, “What is something I want to do, that I never got a chance to?” or “What’s next for me in life?”. Sit with that thought and I promise you’ll figure it out.
How?
Keep A Journal
Writing down what you feel and think is truly underrated. It’s the same feeling as telling your close friends your worries, and it feels like a burden off your chest. As you write down things, you find things that might have been obvious, but you couldn’t see it. I personally use this blog like a journal of sorts to lay off my thoughts, and It definitely helps.
Set A Time For Yourself To Think
It can be 10 mins or 30 mins a day, whatever you can spare for yourself to just be in your head with no distractions. Just thinking about what you’re going to do that day and how the previous day was. It can be pretty therapeutic and can give some great insights in your day-to-day actions. I usually do this on my way to/from college in my college bus, where I put on some clam music and just go through my day.
Talk To Yourself
Yes, I mean out loud. In front of a mirror or while in bed. This has the same effect as the ones mentioned in keeping a journal, i.e. you are speaking your thoughts and hearing them through your ears, which in turn makes you think. Maybe this sounds really dumb, but from experience, I can say this works. Give it a shot: talk in third person, role play as different people inside your head, whatever works, let it all out!
